SUMMARY:Conference 5/6 Nov 2026 – A Stable Climate as a Requirement for Democracy and Human Rights
DESCRIPTION:\nPlease join us for the 2026 annual conference of the NNHRR’s working group on Human Rights and the Climate Crisis in collaboration with the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES), the University of Amsterdam and Tilburg University.\n\n\n\nTheme\n\n\n\nThe climate keeps deteriorating. The effects of this change are being felt all around the world and have the potential to significantly infringe upon human rights and to undermine the functioning of democracy. The conference aims to discover and discuss precisely these relations, looking both at risks of climate change and how human rights and democratic theory can strengthen calls for climate action.\n\n\n\n.stk-9d62085 {margin-bottom:0px !important;}\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease register here to join us at the Amsterdam Law School ( https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/FgeaFJjVEZ )\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreliminary Progamme\n\n\n\nPlease note that on 5 November, there is a working group for NNHRR members only.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Conference\n\n\n\nThe conference is meant to inform about and support ongoing work. We will therefore discuss articles that are still work in progress and hope that participants engage with the shared drafts beforehand.\n\n\n\nWe look forward to welcoming participants in person for this conference, which will take place on-site at the Amsterdam Law School (Roeterseiland Campus, Building A). Before registering, please ensure that you are able to travel to Amsterdam as online participation will not be possible.\n\n\n\nThe conference is free of charge. The working group is able to give out a limited number of stipends in case of financial need. We in principle expect participants to bear their own costs. To request financial assistance, please email: c.v.kammeringer@uva.nl\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFunding\n\n\n\nCo-organised and co-sponsored by the Amsterdam Center for European Studies (ACES) and Climate Litigation and Democracy (LitDem; ERC grant no. 101125511). Co-funded by the European Union (ERC and Erasmus+/Jean Monnet). Views and opinions expressed are however those of the speakers only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union, the European Research Council Executive Agency, or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency. Neither the EU nor the respective granting authorities can be held responsible for them.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
